Our 2009 Viognier comes from grapes at Deux Vert Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Owners Mike and Patty Green diligently tend this vineyard with loving care. We learn from Mike’s innovative growing practices each time we walk the vineyard together. Wine Spectator rated last year’s Viognier a 90, calling it “smooth and polished, delivering lots of ripe pear and pineapple that bloom against almond blossom and spice flavors.” We think this one is similarly balanced and complex.
Dad: Apricots and peaches on palate, melon and minerality on the long finish.
Fille: I was drinking a glass of this Viognier while watching the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. First, you think the Giants win because of the pitching, then you realize they are great defensively, and only then do you see that they can really hit. Similarly, this Viognier initially strikes you as aromatically beautiful, but then you realize the stone fruit palate is interesting, upon which you discover that the crisp acidity would pair well with spicy Thai and Indian food as well as sushi. I love that it is completely dry with all stainless purity.
