The wines from Kalita Vineyard, located in the Yamhill-Carlton district of Oregon and owned by Arthur and Sherry Kalita, get more interesting as the vines mature. Wine Spectator said of our 2007 Pinot Noir Kalita Vineyard: “This is lively, with mouthwatering acidity supporting strawberry, raspberry and floral aromas and flavors, lingering prettily on the finish (90).” In 2008, the maturing vines, vineyard management, and winemaking all “clicked” for a wine of complexity, intensity, and depth.
Dad: It’s got it all: aroma, intensity, complexity, mouthfeel, flavors, finish, tannins... It is such a pleasurable experience that I find it hard to disengage and be analytical.
Fille: This year’s Kalita certainly captures your attention immediately, but it has complexity and maturity as well. It’s like Robert Downey, Jr.- just when you’re impressed with “Ironman” it pops out with a “Soloist” performance. It is cashmere in a glass- luxurious and lush. It has a nose of blackberry for more than one reason (I dropped my Blackberry into one of the fermenters while hanging upside down over it- true story). The palate contains cola, caramel, and chocolate that extends into the long finish. This would pair wonderfully with dinners of lamb, game, and steak.
