Nicholas Vineyard

Owned by Nick and Sheila Nicholas, the Nicholas Vineyard is in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. It is situated very close to where we make wines at August Cellars. So close that Nick has used his tractor to haul the grapes over to us during harvest.

Planted in 2001, the vineyard is at an elevation of about 500'. As with other vineyards we source from, our fruit comes from near the top of the vineyard. There are 28 acres of pinot noir planted on the south-east facing slope. The soil type is Laurelwood, a Loess soil.

The grapes we get from Nicholas vineyard are all of the pommard clone. Starting in 2009, we will be getting a small amount of the 115 clone in addition.
